Nutanix brings Community Edition to the cloud

International. Nutanix, a next-generation enterprise computing company, announced that Community Edition can now be deployed as an On-Demand service running on AWS or Google Cloud Platform. Community Edition On-Demand is enabled through technology integration with Ravello Systems, the leading provider of nested virtualization solutions.

With a flexible, time-based model that costs approximately $1 per hour, Community Edition now eliminates capital budgeting requirements that often prevent IT teams from evaluating new solutions. With this release, IT professionals have the option to evaluate Community Edition software by deploying it to a wide variety of existing x86 servers or by using it in a public cloud.

By providing Community Edition as an On-Demand service in the cloud, Nutanix enables a larger audience of customers, partners and users to experience the company's advanced Web-scale technology without having to procure, configure and manage new hardware for the data center. In just a few minutes, data center management teams can accelerate their assessment of the industry's leading hyperconverged infrastructure solution and determine its suitability for their applications. In addition, Nutanix channel partners can also use Community Edition to demonstrate all the key capabilities of the Nutanix Xtreme Computing Platform.

"As a community edition beta user, I have experienced the flexibility and power of Nutanix software firsthand, deploying it with existing hardware and as an On-Demand service," said Joep Piscaer, chief technology officer of OGD ict-diensten. "Regardless of the deployment model, using Nutanix was a simple and imperceptible experience, and Community Edition allowed the rest of our IT team to become familiar with Nutanix software in no time."

In addition, Nutanix has successfully completed the beta phase of its Community Edition software with more than 10,000 registered users in less than six months, and has now unveiled its version available to the general public. In addition to the new On-Demand capability, Community Edition users now have access to significant software enhancements introduced in Nutanix Acropolis 4.5 software, including EC-X Erasure Coding, VM High Availability for Acropolis Hypervisor, self-service file restoration, and more.

"Community Edition has generated overwhelmingly positive feedback from our expanding community, and we are proud to have achieved this important development milestone," said Manoj Agarwal, vice president of engineering at Nutanix. "The Nutanix community was instrumental in calling for a cloud-based deployment model to evaluate the next generation of technologies for the private cloud. Thanks to the inherent flexibility of our software and our integration with Ravello Systems, we can now deliver a true cloud experience."

Both Community Edition deployment models are available to the general public and can be accessed after registering on www.nutanix.com/CE.

Community Edition can be downloaded at no cost in www.nutanix.com/CE
