International. Business schools have long been important drivers of change by creating an environment where original thinking flourishes. At its 2016 Deans' Conference, AACSB International (AACSB), the global accreditation and membership association entity for business schools, presented a sample of 30 innovations representing how business schools are innovating and diversifying the realm of business education.
Celebrated as part of the AACSB Centennial Anniversary and the upcoming Vision Initiative, the inaugural Innovations That Inspire puts the spotlight on a variety of ways AACSB member schools around the world are working to innovate and diversify the realm of education in the business world. From their approaches to research and learning, to their engagements with stakeholders and control of their direction and operations, business schools are redefining the way academic institutions of all types create, teach, connect and lead.
"Globally, business schools are contributing to society in unprecedented ways, through their revolutionary ideas, pioneering academic practices, and unwavering commitment to preparing the leaders of the future in the business world," said Thomas R. Robinson, president and CEO of the AACSB. "The Innovations that Inspire initiative gives visibility to innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship rooted in the DNA of business schools. We are proud to highlight a sample of the depth and breadth of intelligent thinking that takes place in business education every day."
As part of the initiative, AACSB members were invited to share the ways in which they have challenged the status quo, and have made a positive impact on their faculties, students and the community as a whole. Nearly 300 proposals were submitted from more than 200 AACSB member associations in 35 countries, a range of inspirations that illustrates an impressive commitment to engagement, innovation and impact.
"Innovations that Inspire is one of the many ways the AACSB seeks to encourage and celebrate business schools that embrace original thinking," said William H. Glick, chair of the AACSB Board of Directors and Dean of rice University's Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business. "The proposals illustrate the innovative power of AACSB member schools as catalysts for innovation, co-creators of knowledge, lifelong learning hubs, leaders in leadership and facilitators of shared prosperity."
