Cartagena continues to add cameras to its safety net

Colombia. Ten cameras with two monitors were installed in the Luis Carlos Galán neighborhood, after several months of efforts by the community leaders of that sector.

Jorge Luis Alvear, a member of Galán's security front and one of those in charge of the administration of the cameras, said that the management consisted of a long diligence before the Mayor of Cartagena, Distriseguridad and the collaboration of the Son Cartagena Foundation.

As a result, according to Alvear, a budget of 16 million pesos was invested for the acquisition of cameras and monitors.

According to some neighbors in the area, at one time they saw the need to form a first security front, which achieved the installation of nine alarms in an equal number of streets, since the incursions of robbers and freighters at any time were very frequent, but over time the need arose to request cameras from the District.

The Luis Carlos Galán neighborhood is surrounded by sectors such as  Navas Meisel, Vista Hermosa, Las Colinas, Henequén, San Pedro Mártir and El Mirador de la Bahía, some of which suffer the scourge of the so-called young people at risk, who not only affect their own neighborhoods but also make a presence in the adjoining ones.

The ten cameras were strategically distributed, five for each street with its respective monitor, which will be supervised by the security front that the neighbors have just reactivated with the acquisition of security equipment.

However, Alvear announced that it is planned to obtain other monitors to assign them to several houses and to operate 24 hours, with the constant collaboration of the Metropolitan Police of Cartagena.
