New surveillance cameras will be installed in Piedras Negras

Mexico. Mayor Fernando Purón Johnston announced the installation of 35 urban video surveillance cameras and that, in a second stage, they will be located in 27 strategic points of Piedras Negras; with an investment of 2.89 million pesos.

He pointed out that the city will have a total of 53 visual equipment, where 6.5 million pesos have been invested and that they will reinforce security as a support tool of the Municipal Public Security Directorate.

He emphasized that security is one of the core axes of his administration, since since its inception, 85.9 million pesos have been invested in this area in surveillance cameras, the new facilities of the Municipal Preventive Police and patrols for the corporation, the headquarters of the Group of Weapons and Special Tactics, among other actions, which represents 82 percent of the Municipality's own income and 19 percent of the total federal and state shares.

"The effectiveness of this equipment has been demonstrated in the decrease in the incidence of crime, let's also remember that at the beginning of this year, thanks to video cameras, it was possible to detect the American citizen who started a shooting in the San Joaquin neighborhood and ended the lives of a taxi driver and a municipal policeman, allowing the murderer to be caught in less than 8 minutes," he said.

Finally, he declared that among the points where this new equipment will be installed, the intersections of Román Cepeda and Heroico Colegio Militar, Las Américas and Industrial and Lázaro Benavides and Lázaro Cárdenas avenues, among others, stand out.
