Dominican Republic. The Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), through the Tourism Promotion Program of Ciudad Colonial, announced the start of the installation of 123 surveillance cameras in the main streets and strategic points of the Colonial Zone.
The project seeks to ensure the safety of visitors, residents and tourists visiting the First City of America.
Mitur explained that the cameras are being placed at 53 intersections of the Colonial City, focused on places of greater presence of people, such as Plaza España, the restored streets, Independencia Park, El Conde Street, the surroundings of the Ruins of San Francisco, among others.
The Monitoring and Video Surveillance System of the Tourist Management of the Colonial City will allow monitoring the proper functioning of traffic, the maintenance and cleaning of public spaces, the arrest of illicit or suspicious activities, the operation of tourist guides, pedestrian and tourist mobility, load capacity, among other actions that may affect the experience of citizens and tourists who visit the area.
At the same time, this system will be used to determine the efficiency in the management of tourism authorities and their adaptation to variations in the flow of visitors.
This mechanism includes a visualization and monitoring center that will be equipped with the necessary technology to respond to all types of emergencies and will operate under the responsibility of Tourism, the Specialized Tourist Security Corps (Cestur), the Attorney General's Office and the National Emergency System 9-1-1.
