In Santa Cruz only 4 of the 56 surveillance cameras would work

Argentina. The Operations and Monitoring Center was inaugurated in 2012 with a strong investment from the provincial government that sought to prevent crime. Officially, it is unknown because they do not work mostly and a few do in strategic points of this capital. The control of the technical service depends on the Minister of Government, Gustavo Martínez.

The Radio Command has a total of 56 monitoring cameras installed at critical points defined by the crime map of the city and initially, the number of equipment was intended to extend to 200 machines.

The firm Espacios SRL, the same one that carried out the installation of the Connected with Progress Program, was in charge of the set-up of the Operations and Monitoring Center, which delegated to the Santa Cruz Police a radius of coverage of the downtown area and the main accesses of the city.

The government's strong commitment was clear: to provide the security force with technology to improve the public security service, which, in this way, has high-definition images to identify those who engage in criminal behavior.

According to the local media Tiempo Sur, in the middle there were technical problems to start up the system and even "sabotage" was denounced in the optical fiber, but almost three years after its implementation and except for only four, one of them oriented to the AFIP, another on Perón and the remaining two in the vicinity of the estuary and Government House, the rest of the cameras would not be working.

A technical office led by a software engineer and accompanied by systems analysts were going to carry out the analysis of the images that, by order of justice, were required under the premise of clarifying different facts, however, to this day the prosecutors continue to send offices to the media to collaborate with material.

The comprehensive urban video surveillance system had a call for tenders from the Government portfolio, through the Police Headquarters, which demanded an official budget of 2.5 million pesos.

According to the tender specifications, the implementation would take place in three stages. During the first sixty days, the fiber optic laying system was installed for the link of the 56 video surveillance cameras on poles or columns of the city and the monitoring center was set up.

In the second stage, a period of 120 days was stipulated for the provision of at least twenty of the requested cameras, 15 fixed and 5 domes, in addition to the start of the training of the personnel who would be in charge of the system.

In the last stage foreseen in the tender, the remaining 30 fixed cameras and 6 dome cameras had to be installed.

The truth is that as stipulated in the regulations of the urban surveillance system, the control of the technical service of the security cameras depends on the Ministry of Government, in charge of Gustavo Martínez.
