Colombia. The city of Medellín acquired 35 digital surveillance cameras with HDTV quality, for the monitoring of commune 14, El Poblado. This investment was made with resources from the Secretariat of Security and Logistics Management of the Company for Urban Security ESU.
This investment is the latest stage of a project that began in 2011, with a budget of US $ 5 million in order to migrate from existing video surveillance to a technology of better benefits such as digital.
The upgrade process continued during 2012, when 350 Axis Q6034-E cameras were installed, while by 2013 an additional 49 cameras were acquired to reinforce surveillance in different communes of the city. PTZ-style cameras (which perform pan, tilt and zoom movements) with high definition image quality are ideal for urban surveillance because they handle greater precision to cover large perimeters and enlarge images with a high level of detail.
The 35 new units, which complete a total of 95 Axis cameras dedicated to providing security through technology in the El Poblado sector, have been support for the achievement in this commune, according to official data, of 250 captures and nine seizures of firearms between August and September of this year.
For Luis Alberto Delgado, manager of Axis Communications, "a wide range of cities has experienced a reduction in crime rates after having implemented a preventive public security policy that optimizes the police force through intelligent technologies that allow predictive work of anticipation of crime and identification of suspects."
