Ecuador. The 'Safe Transport' project, presented by the National Transit Agency (ANT), implemented video surveillance cameras connected to ecu911 and panic buttons in vehicles. Drivers now work with more peace of mind.
The objective of the Safe Transport project is "to improve the planning, control, and management of public transport and contribute to citizen security". The investment of the project is 72 million dollars, financed by the State.
A panic button will be placed on buses and in the case of taxis, two. Any unit that belongs to a transport company that has the enabling title, is already within the security plan.
The security kits contain: 2 infrared video cameras with audio system, distress buttons, 1 GPS, 1 mobile digital video recorder, 1 UPS, which work with an integrated platform with the ECU911.
These equipment are delivered and installed at no cost to carriers. But, starting in the second year, they will have to pay about $40 per vehicle per year directly to the mobile data carrier (CNT) for data transmission. The new safety kits for public transport were first implemented in the provinces of Pichincha and Guayas.
Initially, the new system will be applied in five hundred units of the twelve thousand registered in Guayas.
Soon, 'Safe Transport' will be included in urban, intercantonal and interprovincial buses to reduce assaults on public transport vehicles.
