Axis reaffirms itself in the number one position in security cameras

altInternational. A new global report from IHS Research, a global research and analysis company, notes that Axis Communications maintained the number one position in the global network and security camera market achieved in the studies of previous years, in addition to conquering leadership in the video encoder sector.

"We further strengthen our market position thanks to our long-term strategy of always launching innovative network video products and offering high-quality security solutions in conjunction with partners around the world," said Ray Mauritsson, President and CEO of Axis Communications. "Following IHS estimates, this market should continue to grow strongly over the next five years, albeit slightly less accelerated than it has been so far. IHS also highlights that the sector is currently more fragmented, with many providers of network video products for security."

The study presents Axis as the market leader in network video surveillance and security cameras. Importantly, the category of security cameras includes both analog and digital models. The report also shows that, since last year, Axis has strengthened its position in the sector, also conquering the first place in the category of video encoders, a product that connects to an analog camera and allows it to have the advantages of networked solutions.

According to IHS, network cameras will account for more than 50% of the monitoring cameras installed worldwide by 2014. Following the study, global sales of digital cameras accounted for 40% of the market in 2012, against 60% of analog cameras.

According to Axis, the migration from analog to digital technology is even more accelerated in emerging markets, such as in some of the countries that make up South America. "We observe that the adoption of network security technologies in emerging markets is faster because they are culturally more open to innovations and also do not have as many analog cameras as more advanced countries, so it is easier and faster to start with the adoption of IP cameras," says Alessandra Faria, Director of Axis for South America.

One of the segments that have most adopted digital cameras to offer greater security to the population of South America are municipalities, for urban monitoring purposes. Examples of cities that are dealing with violence efficiently with network cameras are Ensenada and Berazategui (Argentina), Recife and Manaus (Brazil) and Antioquia and Medellín (Colombia).

The 2013 edition of the report "IHS – CCTV equipment and CCTV – Worldwide – 2013" was based on data received during 2012. The study contains various information on all suppliers of analog and digital equipment for video surveillance, such as cameras, recorders and encoders.
