Mexico. Given the high crime rates in the municipality of Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico, the authorities approved the project to monitor the main roads and conflictive neighborhoods with video surveillance cameras.
The program includes the installation of a thousand video cameras at strategic points and each one will cover a radius of 300 to 500 meters.
The municipal authorities explained the need to increase the number of video surveillance cameras in the face of the constant incidence of crime.
"We know that criminals are using scooters to assault passers-by, motorists, and businesses. In those areas is where we are going to install these cameras," said Mayor Juan Zepeda.
Currently in the municipality there are 100 video surveillance cameras, but many do not work and others are broken.
Inhabitants, transporters and authorities of Nezahualcóyotl, trust that with this type of cameras as support to reinforce security they will give positive results.
The neighborhoods with the highest crime incidence are: El Sol, Reforma, Loma Bonita, Benito Juárez, Impulsora and Metropolitana, among others.
