Mexico. The state government will make an investment of 200 million pesos (US$15.2 million) in the purchase of two thousand surveillance cameras of which 285 will be placed in two months in Ciudad Victoria.
The president of the State Citizen Council of Public Security, José Ángel García Hernández, revealed that in January the tender for the 700 teams that will operate in Tampico, Madero and Altamira will be launched.
According to the information exposed, each team will have a cost of 100 thousand pesos (US $ 7,500), in the case of the state capital will be placed in 77 strategic points that will be determined according to crime maps and based on the statistics of vehicular accidents.
The entry into operation of the teams is one of the main concerns of the newly integrated council formed by businessmen, since in a meeting held at the beginning of June with the governor the project was compromised.
"We are aware that some 2,000 surveillance cameras will be installed throughout Tamaulipas with a total investment of more than 200 million pesos. In a first stage, 285 will be placed in Ciudad Victoria that will be operational in two months and it is expected that by the end of 2013 they will be fully operational, "says a report presented by the agency.
García Hernández indicated that last week the tender was launched to acquire the first part of the cameras, the second will be for the southern zone and will allow to identify faces of offenders which will allow the State and municipal authorities to act in a timely manner in their arrest.
The council considered that the placement of video surveillance equipment is a correct preventive measure that is proven nationally and internationally "that the simple permanent supervision of the actions of all allows us to prevent and attend with opportunity incidents that many times citizens in the daily evolution or we do not dare to denounce or we do not have time to denounce".
It should be remembered that five months ago the governor held a meeting with businessmen, civil society and authorities in the area, in which he revealed that one thousand two hundred equipment would be tendered, 900 for the south and 300 for the capital, however now 800 more cameras are contemplated.
