Colombia. The criminals of the Colombian city of Villavicencio will have a deterrent in the security cameras or at least they will be recorded when they are committing their misdeeds.
The Police and the Mayor's Office have announced that for this month of October the 98 security cameras with which they hope to have the main tool to prosecute criminals will come into operation.
But in addition to the physical characteristics of these equipment, which have a range of 300 meters and work to monitor 360 degrees around their axis, what will really make important the arrival of the cameras will be the new monitoring center.
Colonel Javier Vivas, commander of the Metropolitan Police, hopes that by the end of this month the center will be practically finished.
"It's going to expand and improve technologically. It used to be designed for 40 cameras with a system that was already obsolete. Now there will be more screens to monitor more cameras at the same time in different sectors of the city," explained the police officer.
With the new system, a monitor will allow on average to have four cameras on the screen and there will be four monitors, that is, at the same time you can observe 16 different points of the city.
"This system that is implemented allows to prioritize the cameras and they were not fixed to a wall, as before, but they go in a dome articulated by an arm, with a perfect night visualization system," said Colonel Vivas.
The contract is executed by the Police Revolving Fund and the local Mayor's Office.
