Mexico. In order to specify the actions by the state government to preserve the safety of the inhabitants of the city of León, Guanajuato, Axis carried out the implementation of a public security project that includes the installation of a total of 242 cameras, which are distributed in the 27 neighborhoods with the most criminal incidents.
During the exhibition of the project, the Municipal Security Secretariat held a drill to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Axis Q6032-E cameras, which allow fighting crime and protecting citizens. Today León is one of the safest cities thanks to the new urban video surveillance system.
Such cameras are powered by high power over an Ethernet cable; and are protected with the standards required for IP66 classification against dust. They can make horizontal and vertical movements with inclination of up to 20 degrees above the horizon which allows a better vision, especially on uneven terrain.
They have a 35x optical and 12x digital zoom with which it is possible to identify license plates from a distance of 160 meters thanks to the high image quality. In addition, they have a function that can automatically identify and follow a moving object. They can also continue to operate during a power failure as they have an SD/SDHC card slot that allows local storage.
The great benefits of the cameras are, in the words of Ricardo Sheffield, mayor of the Municipality of León, Guanajuato: a visibility in real time, by the Army, the PGR, the State Attorney General's Office, the Red Cross and traffic and civil protection authorities, being not only a surveillance for criminal acts, one of its primary actions, but they also collaborate in the detection of a fire, to corroborate a report, locate a hit or a car crash, etc.
The investment made in this project was US$1.1 million and it protects areas such as: Lomas de la Piscina, 10 de Mayo, Buenos Aires, Parques del Sur, Ciudad Aurora, Azteca, Libertad, Américas, Balcones de la Joya, Nuevo León, La Florida, Peñitas, Jacinto López, San Felipe de Jesús, Obregón, Zona Centro, San Juan de Dios, Andrade, Martinique, Moderna, Los Paraísos, and Parque Hidalgo.
