Wisegate, the virtual community that brings together IT professionals, recently conducted a survey among security professionals that revealed that more than half of the members of this guild believe that the cloud is too risky and that it is only suitable for certain applications, such as CRM or email.
When asked if they are moving their data to the public cloud, 53% of IT managers in companies related to financial services, healthcare, consumer products, automotive and even government agencies have said that the cloud offers too many risks and that they have no plans, in the short term, to adopt the cloud for such data.
Only 16% of Wisegate members have said they had plans to move to the cloud, but always with the demand for a global agreement and a service-level agreement with the cloud provider. Another 25% say their organization is concerned about cloud computing, but they have short-term plans for its adoption.
Some more Wisegate members say regulations prevent them from adopting cloud-based applications.
For those organizations that are putting their applications, such as email in the cloud, Wisegate members offer some advice. On the one hand, a service-level agreement covering both connectivity and service response time or uptime; know for sure the maximum limits of sending and receiving for each mailbox and for the total of the organization; and finally understand the disaster recovery and archiving processes offered by the service provider.
