Argentina. The Minister of National Security, Nilda Garré, recently inaugurated the Monitoring and Video Surveillance Center of the Buenos Aires neighborhoods of Balvanera and Once.
"The cameras are a fundamental element of support that allow to immediately move some mobile or police personnel that is closest in the area where a crime occurs," Garré said during a press conference held together with the head of the Federal Police, Enrique Capdevilla, in the section located in Catamarca 1345.
The Monitoring and Video Surveillance Center corresponds to District II of the Federal Police and is the second to inaugurate the force, which is framed in the Buenos Aires Safe City Project.
From this second Center you can monitor a total of 120 cameras located at 30 intersections of streets and avenues with vision in the four accesses to the crossing.
Minister Garré stressed that the system belongs to the Federal Police, which allows "to design and use it as it wants", without depending on an outsourced company in case of any inconvenience.
The locations of the cameras respond to the crime map provided by the National Directorate of Criminal Intelligence (DNIC) and each consists of three fixed cameras and a dome with zoom and remote control.
Garré said that the operation of the cameras is carried out by specialized personnel who are in direct contact with the 911 Dispatch Center to give notice of detected incidents and support the operations directed by the Radio Command.
In that sense, the minister pointed out that the Buenos Aires Safe City project replaces the current 911 Emergency System of the Federal Police and the Radio Command.
"These centers will be made by zones but then there will be a terminal on Azopardo Street and there we will have all the images in general and of the patrol cars with cameras, which will give a much better service," Garré said.
The minister said that this project plans to install 1,200 cameras that will be operating approximately in June and that will cover 300 points of the city of Buenos Aires.
