Mexico. In the Mexican city of Oaxaca , about 200 video surveillance cameras will be located with the aim of reducing insecurity rates and improving the control of car traffic in problem areas, according to Luis Ugartechea Begué, municipal president.
The mayor said that at least 15 million pesos (US$ 1.1 million) will be allocated from the Metropolitan Fund, where there would be a financial co-participation of the state government.
He also said that emergency buttons will be placed in the hands of vigilant citizens who will anonymously report to the command center any suspicious or criminal act, with an average response time of three to five minutes.
In addition, there will be GPS or vehicle tracking system, from the command center, where the location and mobility of the municipal patrols will be known, while the same monitoring team will have a recording scheme to obtain photographic shots of vehicle plates or identities of alleged violators of the law.
