Mexico. With a considerable economic investment, the city of Toluca installed and put into operation 24 new video surveillance cameras, with which it seeks to control both traffic circulation and security in the areas of greatest influx of people, schoolchildren, commercial and financial activity in the city.
The mayor of Toluca, María Elena Barrera Tapia, stressed that the 24 new cameras are added to 21 that already operated, and soon with the support of the state government this figure will be doubled to improve video surveillance at the service not only of this capital, but of the rest of the municipalities that make up the metropolitan area of the Toluca Valley.
The 55 video cameras that now total this city, will operate in the main areas and avenues where there is a significant concentration of people, and will substantially reduce theft from passers-by, an illicit that most afflicts people who visit the city.
The municipal president recalled that after the issue of unemployment, insecurity, is what most affects the citizens of Toluca and the country in general, so the authorities are obliged to redouble efforts.
According to data from the Monitoring Center, of the 2.1 million inhabitants in the 23 municipalities that make up the Metropolitan Area of the Toluca Valley, 50% of the inhabitants are in Metepec and Toluca. In the latter municipality, one million motorists circulate every day and there are 970 educational establishments, public and private, of all levels, which represents a challenge for local authorities.
The 55 surveillance video cameras Monitoring Center, have a considerable range, which will even allow to observe license plates of the vehicles.
