Argentina. Following the security prevention policies that are being adopted by the bulk of Latin American countries, the central government of Argentina, headed by its president Cristina Fernández announced the implementation of a complete biometric system that seeks to optimize the scientific investigation of crimes and support for the preventive function of security in this country.
Basically, the system will allow the identification of fingerprints and faces as a security measure. It will be supported by the software of the Automated Fingerprint System (Afis), which processes patronymic and biological records for the effective identification of people and traces.
As revealed by the President when presenting the Federal System of Biometric Identification for Security (Sibios), in two years all the inhabitants of Argentina (about 40 million), would be registered in the biometric identification system and could be identified.
The Ministry of Security will be the authority that will be responsible for managing the system that will be used by the different control agencies, such as the Federal Police, National Gendarmerie, Naval Prefecture, Airport Security Police, National Registry of Persons and the National Directorate of Migration.
