United States. In the city of Sanford, Florida, a protection system was installed for the Public Safety Complex, where the main fire and police station is located, which focuses on the administration of both video surveillance systems and access control.
The system is installed a unified security platform called Security Center, from the manufacturer Genetec, with which the city also intends to improve and update its five utility buildings and that of the Municipal headquarters, which were already equipped with independent video surveillance and access control systems.
The Omnicast video surveillance solution and the Synergis access control system, as part of the Security Center solution, manage a total of 106 cameras and more than 100 access doors, respectively, across the federated platform. They installed 83 IP cameras from Axis Communications. Fourteen of these IP cameras monitor the parking lot and exteriors of the building and the remaining 69 (mostly vandal-resistant fixed IP cameras) monitor the interior.
Other hardware including HID Global's biometric devices, and password keypad boards for high-security areas such as evidence rooms and the armory, were also integrated into the system. The Public Security Complex also has remote site monitoring, triggering alarms if a door is forced or left open for a long time.
Likewise, the Sanford installation is supported by two IBM Blade servers and an 18 TB SAN. This has a mirror server in the Municipal headquarters with redundant connection in case of failures. Monitoring 24 hours a day, 7 days is done with the Security Center solution.
"We used physical keys for access control in our previous building. The new system is much more efficient, and even though the change and technological advancement is great, the platform is quite user-friendly and easy to use, so it didn't take long periods of training to catch up. We've been very happy with the system," said Sgt. Dave Morgenstern.
