Latin America. The region's communication landscape is changing. Mobile information transmission systems are penetrating more strongly in Latin America, and telecommunications are strengthened by the growth of telephony and mobile broadband.Latin America ranks second in the invention of mobile technology in a territory in the world, with 88.2% during 2009, and since 2000 subscriptions to cell phones are increasing about 26% per year. Last year the penetration of this type of technology reached 90.4% in the United States, in Asia Pacific it was 55.2% and in Africa 50.6%.
The countries that led this growth in the region in 2009 were Brazil with 169.7 million, Argentina, 49.1 million, and Mexico, 83.3 million.
Mobile phone subscriptions in Latin America increased on average 26% per year between 2000 and 2009, with Cuba, Honduras and Ecuador being the countries that stood out the most with 58.3%; 52.4% and 44.2% respectively.
El Salvador was the country with the highest penetration last year with 1,228 subscriptions per 1,000 people, followed by Argentina with 1,217 and Brazil with 876. By 2020 Brazil will top the list of the main markets in the region in terms of mobile telephony, in second place will be Mexico and in third place Will be Colombia.
The international consultancy Euromonitor conducted a study, which estimates that 2010 and 2012 will be the key years for the growth of telecommunications.
For its part, the fixed telephony market only grew by 2.5% in Latin America between 2004 and 2009, because this technology is limited by the geographical conditions of an area, especially in this region.
