Poland. Schools, kindergartens, parks and government buildings in the town of Ursus, on the outskirts of Warsaw, Poland, are constantly monitored by 300 Axis Communications cameras that are managed by Milestone Systems' XProtect Enterprise IP video software.The use of this open video platform has allowed the reduction of crime, as it facilitates the prevention of vandalism, and the rapid response of the authorities in case of an incident.
The idea of the Ursus authorities was to invest in a video surveillance solution that could be easily modernized and expanded, and that would integrate with previously installed hardware .
The priority was to monitor eight schools and seven kindergartens, as well as some parks.
The data of the video captured by the cameras are stored on local servers. The system on a fiber network, as well as on an external wireless transmission.
Waldemar Szylar, director of the Board of Mirare, the company responsible for the implementation of Milestone XProtect, said that thanks to the open platform of the software, it is possible to improve the surveillance system by adding an analysis system with new features, such as people counting, detection of abandoned luggage, automatic identification of traffic violations, among others.
This video surveillance system has already provided benefits for the locality, since crime and crime rates have fallen. Today Ursus has one of the lowest crime rates per 100,000 inhabitants.
