Spain. Around 100,000 debit and credit cards of German customers who spent their summer holidays in Spain have been blocked and will soon be re-released, due to possible massive fraud that apparently may have originated in a data processing center. The German authorities confirmed that last week thousands of cards from Barclays, Lufthansa and the financial company Karstadt-Quelle were blocked, from customers who had carried out some type of operation in the Iberian country.
At the moment it is presumed that anyone who has used a Visa or Mastercard card in Spain is at risk of suffering a compromise of their plastic.
Visa explained that until it has results it cannot release details of the investigation, but it is aware that there is a data security problem in some cards used in Spain.
