Spain. So far in 2007 different banks have suffered 490 variants of online fraud according to reports from the security company s21sec, which works with the main Spanish financial institutions. Most of these cases, 86%, fall within the so-called phishing, that is, the impersonation of web pages by false ones in order to obtain the user's personal data; while the other 14% refer to Trojan attacks, a modality that is advancing rapidly.80% of these 490 cases of financial cyber fraud are new variants, first detected by s21sec, while 20% are already known cases that have reappeared on the Internet.
The United States remains the main country of origin of phishing, with 258 cases, followed by Russia with 59 cases (although it is the main issuer of Trojans), and Hong Kong with 32.
