In Paris, President Nicolas Sarkozy commissioned his government to evaluate a plan to install a CCTV on the country's public transport network, while in New York, according to the New York Times, the financial district plans to protect itself from future terrorist actions with the implementation of 3000 cameras by the end of 2008.
However, the initiatives taken by these cities have not been well accepted by civil rights organizations, as they say that the cameras threaten to violate the privacy of citizens and transform their countries into police states.
