Argentina. A comprehensive urban surveillance plan that aims to combat crime in the Argentine capital has been launched by the Buenos Aires government by installing 300 security cameras in public spaces, neighborhoods, highways and subways. The expectation of the authorities is to expand the coverage and reach 1000 cameras in March 2011 and in April begin the installation of another 1000 security systems. These teams, which have had an investment of US $ 3,291,972, transmit the recorded images to the Urban Monitoring Center (CMU) of the Metropolitan Police.
In the event of an irregularity, the operators of the plant notify the Single Command and Control Center of Buenos Aires (CUCC), which alerts the local and federal police about the cases.
Today 23 public spaces in the city are monitored by 220 devices of the 300 installed in the town, plus the cameras that work from Puerto Madero, supervised by the Argentine Naval Prefecture, and the 150 surveillance equipment installed in tolls, highways and road accesses by the state concessionaire of the Buenos Aires highways, AUSA.
