Security is an issue that is permanently part of the agenda of our countries; an example of this was the First Meeting of Ministers of the Interior on Security matters in the Americas, held on October 7 and 8 in Mexico City. This meeting, an initiative of the Organization of American States, headed by its Secretary General, José Miguel Insulza, was held because, according to Insulza, insecurity threatens stability, democratic strengthening and the possibilities of development of our region.Precisely Mexico is going through a difficult situation of insecurity as a result of the frontal struggle that the government of the Central American country has been advancing against drug trafficking and that has caused more than 3,000 deaths so far this year. Added to the above to the high crime rates that indicate, according to data from the newspaper El Universal, that in 2007 there was an average of 25 robberies and four deaths per day.
Kraft Foods Inc has precisely food manufacturing and distribution plants in Mexico in places like Tijuana, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Merida and the Federal District. In the latter, the installation of a perimeter security system by Telesistemas y Seguridad Perimetral S.A. de C.V was carried out at the beginning of this year, with supplies from the manufacturer Aliara. The engineer Enrique Segre, director of the firm that carried out the integration, explained to Ventas de Seguridad the characteristics of the system and the details of its installation.
Although the two plants already had cyclonic mesh to safeguard the perimeter, the company's directives determined that other elements that offered higher levels of security had to be added to prevent the theft of finished food, the supplies for them and the entry of assailants in search of other goods in the plants. In that sense, an Aliara microphone cable system was chosen to detect the moment when the mesh is cut or an intruder tries to scale it. In Segre's words, the Aliara team was chosen for the ease of installation, its operating software and its reasonable cost.
The installed system was the Aliara PMS\3A which the manufacturer defines as "an electronic detection system designed to protect internal and external perimeters. It detects the signals coming from the perimeter fence, generated by attempts to cut, scale, hit or tread." It also highlights "its reliability and adaptability in the most demanding topographic and climatic conditions. It addresses a large number of cases in which other systems do not offer solutions: rain, vegetation, fog, wind, snow, rough terrain."
The protected facilities were the Victoria plants which has an area of 1125 square meters and a perimeter of 925 meters; in total it is composed of 12 buildings; the Ecatepec plant has an area of 975 square meters and a perimeter of 825 meters. The equipment is working satisfactorily since January of this year and as explained by Segre, the end user is very satisfied with the system as it was able to reduce the number of guards by 40% by eliminating the need for continuous rondines.
