The ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) created by Axis Communications, Bosch Security Systems and Sony Corporation, seeks to establish standards in the interfaces of video products for network transmission, which unifies the different interfaces currently existing for specifications such as video broadcasting, device discovery, intelligence metadata among others. This initiative, which was presented at the beginning of 2008 by the three companies, appears in the world of security as of this October.
The founding members guarantee, with the creation of this independent non-profit organization, accessibility to develop an open standard for the industry. Organizations interested in participating can register on the website www.onvif.org, where they will find information on the advantages that would entail the establishment of a global standard, as well as answer the most frequently asked questions.
The idea is that through ONVIF the adoption of the global standard will be accelerated, defining a global and open protocol for network video, as well as a common protocol for the exchange of information between network video devices.
It will also provide interoperability between network video products regardless of manufacturers. End users, integrators, consultants and manufacturers will have it even easier to take advantage of the possibilities offered by network video, which will result in more cost-effective and flexible solutions, greater market opportunities and reduced risk.
