Identify yourself with your body

New advances in biometric technology have expanded the recognition patterns of human beings through different methods of identification and authentication through unique physiological and behavioral characteristics of people. Among these methods are hand geometry, iris, retina, facial recognition, DNA, fingerprint, recognition by the veins of the hand, signature, voice, dynamic keyboard and movement.

In the electronic security industry, biometrics have been imposed on other access control systems, especially in those places where it is necessary to control the attendance and entry of personnel in restricted areas. Nowadays the new forms of identification have very high margins of error, which provide greater protection to the institutions that implement them; however, it is necessary that these technologies are installed according to the requirements of the end users and the characteristics of the industry where they will be put to work.

The newest identification processes in the industry continue to be iris, vein and facial recognition, as well as fingerprint and voice recognition; however, three-dimensional hand recognition, which captures the individual's limb in width, length and thickness, is being imposed with force in Latin America.

Fingerprint readers are also widely implemented in the region, as they already have time in the market, which has facilitated their advancement and development.

As mentioned above, biometric systems have a degree of security that varies according to the system, that is, all solutions have a margin of error, for some it depends on the technology used by each manufacturer and the recognition algorithm. They also depend on other factors, for example: there are certain types of fingerprints that can be copied, or there can be wear of the fingerprint, which makes reading uncomfortable, or in the case of the iris optical diseases can affect recognition, as well as the problems of some people with the cornea and the particular characteristics of certain ethnic groups that have less eyesight. half of your iris.

The new biometric identification systems have become fashionable, so to speak, as a result of various unencouraging circumstances such as the increase in organized crime or terrorism, which is why developments in the security industry have been presented with more force.

Like access control cards with or without a chip, biometric systems allow not only to identify the person but to authenticate their job and their entry to restricted places, although it is worth noting that biometrics, because it is unique to the human being, is inviolable, that is, employees can not deliver their credentials to their colleagues to perform for them. the control of attendance or to access prohibited areas.

In Latin America, the future of biometrics as a security system is on the rise, especially in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Chile and Venezuela; because as we have mentioned, biometrics is perhaps one of the easiest and most convenient ways to provide security to an organization, regardless of whether or not it is the newest and most expensive on the market.
