Mexico. The Human Rights Prosecutor's Office of Guanajuato (PDHG) requested that the state government and municipal presidencies regulate the operation of security cameras that monitor public places, because in current conditions they violate the right to privacy of people.
The state ombudsman, Manuel Vidaurri Arréchiga, explained that the cameras are effective for security, but guarantees are required to avoid attacks on privacy, therefore a legal framework was recommended that establishes the management of film equipment in the 46 municipalities of the state and periods for the destruction of videos. He also said that it is necessary that the information acquired through security cameras is not used in a bad way, since with the filming the government invades the privacy of motorists and pedestrians, even with shots that are offensive.
