In this case study we will talk about the integration of an access control system for visitors in a government enclosure in Mexico, which sought better protection of its facilities. By: Duván Chaverra A.
"Every national security institution requires the maximum protection of its facilities and its users considering the proliferation of different criminal groups not only in Mexico, but in other latitudes," with those words the engineer Aldo Flores, CEO of Network Group Total, integrating firm of the project, justified the installation of an access control system for visitors in a Mexican Law Enforcement Agency, institution in charge of guaranteeing the democratic rule of law in that country and that receives thousands of visitors a year.
And it is that nowadays more and more places seek to improve their security and the access control system is one of the preferred products that most gains ground in the electronic security market in Latin America, seeking to match commercially with CCTV and alarm systems.
This type of technology allows to identify and keep a record of all the people who enter a certain place, which improves the security of the enclosure and increases the reliability of the people who work or enter a certain place.
In this Case Study we will talk about a comprehensive hardware and software platform for the registration and control of all visitors who enter the Mexican Law Enforcement Agency.
The needs of the place had to do with carrying out a detailed record and follow-up of the people who enter the facilities, which allows to obtain as much information as possible to make a complete identification.
Initially, our guest gives us more details about the reasons why they decided to improve the access system in that place.
"To maintain the validity of the Mexican State in the face of the onslaught of organized crime, the Federal Government has coordinated to produce intelligence activities, active and passive counterintelligence and state-of-the-art technology to have the ability to identify with high precision the nature of an attack on national security," explained the guest.
The system
On the type of system installed in the government space, our guest explained that "this platform is made up of a digital transaction record element called XCOPE, which allows the capture of photo and image of the person's document in high resolution, and offers an open software platform that allows incorporating other capture elements such as fingerprint reader (1 fingerprint or 10 fingerprints 4 – 4 -2), signature pad, microphone, video capture, barcode reader, among others. This state-of-the-art technology allows to unify in a single registry all the identification elements associated with the visitor who enters the client's facilities".
The purpose of the system, according to engineer Flores "has to do with unifying all the information of each visitor and forming a valuable information bank of general data and biometric data, such as fingerprint records, which can be consulted for expert or criminalistic purposes."
Characteristics
The previous technology installed in the Attorney General's Office of Mexico was a scheme elaborated and designed by the institution itself in a traditional way and for quantitative purposes, in which a record was made by name with the taking of a footprint and the signature of the visitor.
Now technology and advances in access control systems offer the user a variety of options when it comes to properly monitoring and recording visitors. Below, engineer Flores lists some of the features of the security system installed in the enclosure:
- Security: platform for consultation and exploration of information, in a secure way, which allows data analysis.
- Autonomy: secure communication protocol for the storage of data in internal backup units.
- Compatibility: programming based on open software that allows the exchange and operation of XCOPE with other technological platforms.
- Synthesis: generates a single image (with watermark), in which all the photographs and other data entered / captured through peripheral equipment are integrated.
- Interconnectivity: transmits the data to the selected storage medium through WAN networks or wireless connection. In case of communication failure, XCOPE is able to store locally and when the connection is restored it transmits it. It has scheduled download of images / transactions, guaranteeing the optimal use of network resources so as not to affect the priority operations of the institution.
- Multifunctionality: the versatile design of the XCOPE allows it to be adapted to various combinations of transactions, not only for security institutions but for other types of applications.
In addition to security, this platform has other applications whose functions are complemented in sectors such as banking, financial and others such as control of entry of assets to facilities, customs control, control of transactions of exchange houses, registration of banking transactions, among others.
The reasons for the installation
The reason why this type of system was selected was "because it is a process of integration of various technologies and manufacturers, based on a device that is designed to integrate transactions of different nature, thus ensuring interoperability with other existing systems," said Aldo Flores.
In addition to visitor access control as such, this product also has an integrated high-definition security camera, and the transmission and recording systems have encryption security, which allows to preserve the information in case it can be altered and / or reproduced by unauthorized persons.
Finally, according to the CEO of Network Group Total, the results have been satisfactory and the processes are currently being fulfilled without presenting inconveniences: "The institution to date carries out the registration process of all its visitors with this technology, generating a very valuable reference database and thus avoiding the infiltration of unwanted elements, thus complying with the requirements established in the National Security Plan 2009-2012".
