Have you already updated your lexicon to web terms?

I really hope that this does not take you by surprise, but it seems that the sub niche of networks and web connectivity corners us more and more every day. It's hard to think of a future within the security industry if we don't handle key concepts like H.264, Mpeg-4, token, network topology, megapixels, protocols, and many more.

The past experience in the ASIS show gave an account of this. Companies are increasingly striving to improve their resolutions, which is why megapixel cameras are more prevalent in the hallways of any exhibition. Similarly, technology producers are seeing the urgent need to improve the compression of the video signal generated, as they are aware that the battlefield is gradually moving to the virtual reality environment, that is, the network.

More and more end users are inclined and attracted to web technologies; the fact that IT managers most often have interference with purchasing decisions when it comes to electronic security is undoubtedly a factor that is tipping the balance in the market. Thus, end users demand more and more solutions for networking. Manufacturers, then, develop the technologies that the market demands (even the famous hybrid solutions, which have proven to be the best option for Latin America today).

The question is, are you as an integrator, installer or distributor updating yourself to understand the language spoken at both ends of the business chain? I myself have felt at a disadvantage when I see the dizzying pace at which the industry is changing, and that is to say that not only does this happen in security, but each sector wants to get its share of what the Internet implies, which is above all real-time control.

So, I suggest you take paper and pencil, read the first technology magazine you find. When you do not understand a term write it down and call that friend of your son or daughter, yes that one, the one with glasses and weird hairstyle, and invite him to lunch and ask him. That will give you a hand in the new generation of business.
