Honduras. The staff of the Honduran Institute of Social Security (IHSS) began the process of capturing the fingerprints of the affiliates to open an electronic file and thus determine who actually attends consultations at the national level.
With this new systematization procedure, the authorities will be able to know immediately in which company or public institution each user works.
Likewise, the electronic file will establish if the member is up to date with Social Security payments. Likewise, the electronic file will help a patient who suffers an accident or needs medical assistance and does not have the identification documents with him, to also be treated by verifying his fingerprints.
The director of Social Security, Mario Zelaya, stressed that this new process of social identification of affiliates does not affect costs for the entity, since it is done through the contributions of the affiliates. Social Security has about 6,000 members and approximately one million four hundred thousand users, who will have to be registered in the new electronic files.
