Latin America. Computer security threats are evolving, as cybercriminals use advanced manual hacking techniques, which is why it is crucial to be at the forefront and preview the risks to act accurately.
Thanks to the analysis of the main attacks that played a leading role in 2018, ADALID, an expert company in Information Security, has visualized the new trends for this 2019, ranging from the increase in computer attacks both in companies and in homes, to predict a considerable decrease in the use of illegal software. Axel Díaz, senior lawyer at ADALID, presents the following panorama related to information security for this year.
Number 1: increase in the use of smart devices associated with the Internet of Things (IoT) and whose consequence is the increase in computer attacks on homes and companies that use this system: currently the Internet of Things, through an integrated system of electronic devices, is allowing both homes and companies, perform activities such as parental control, surveillance, monitoring of industrial processes, automation of tasks among others, in an agile, simple and dynamic way for those who consume these products.
However, these devices in their great majority being emerging technology have many technological vulnerabilities and security breaches, which are exploited by cybercriminals and with it there will be an increase in crimes for 2019 such as financial theft, personal data, industrial secrets, etc.
Number 2: Increase in crimes against moral integrity (insult and slander in social networks): for the year 2019 there will be a tendency to register, directly related to criminal aggressions among users of different social networks in the face of issues of opinion and those that become politically incorrect, whose consequence will be the direct and indirect violation of fundamental rights to those affected and with it the increase in complaints of libel and slander as well as the loss of privacy and risk of physical harm to the slaps in these media for the aggressions presented.
Number 3: Overflow of Fake News: if 2018 was the year of fake and cumbersome news for the media, the year 2019 will be the year in which this trend is consolidated and therefore there will be information security problems in terms of its integrity, which can affect people, companies, civil society and even the State itself, lacking effective security controls against them.
Number 4: Retaliation against Facebook: with the passage of time, every day Facebook loses users around the world as a result of the security and privacy breaches presented in said social network, 2019 will be the year in which the nations of the world take action against it, to guarantee the privacy of their nationals and prevent their data from continuing to be exposed to third parties for economic and criminal purposes among others.
Number 5: Decrease in the use of illegal software: the year 2019 will be the first in the computer history in which the decrease in the use of illegal software is drastically seen, taking into account that within the computer community it is a trend of the last two years the purchase of original computer programs and games, which will generate safer environments by not having to use Cracks, in the same way Software as a Service (SaaS – Software as a Service) will be preferred by the business market.
The privacy of information and more awareness about the use given to personal data, are crucial so that in this 2019 it is not a victim of the attacks and threats of cybercriminals, who increasingly use techniques difficult to detect.
