Equipment protection during the rainy season

Latin America. Tripp Lite offers these tips to prevent power failures  and breakdowns in equipment installed in small SME sites or in more complex Data Centers.

As we know, SMEs are an important part of the country's productive sectors, and like data centers, when the rainy season approaches, measures must be taken to protect sensitive electrical and electronic equipment, computer equipment and even the information stored on computers and servers.

In general, companies need to protect their computer assets, therefore, Norman Beltrán, Value Channel Manager of Tripp Lite Mexico, offers a series of tips to give greater protection to electronic equipment from power failures and electric shocks due to seasonal rains:

Preventing situations of system crashes or data loss should be supported with the appropriate technology  and capacity for your computers or servers with a UPS Uninterruptible Power Supply) to the amount of equipment to be protected. In the event of an unexpected power outage or outage, a No Break will keep your computer sufficiently energized and provide additional time that will allow for the safe shutdown of the apps you are using and no data is lost. Tripp Lite offers a wide range of UPS systems designed to fit the needs of any application: from a desktop computer to a complete data center or end-to-end server room.

It is recommended that you save the most important files to a reputable online backup service to ensure that the files can be recovered in the event of physical damage to your computer's hard drives when the system restarts. We must consider the value of our information, how many copies we have of it.

Carry portable electrical appliances and small devices, it is important to keep them in an isolated and dry place, such as a plastic bag with closure.

Another action that we must execute and rarely do is to carefully review the insurance policy and if possible, when any damage occurs, take photos of the damaged objects to present them to the insurance company, since it is a requirement that they usually ask to restore their value and make the contracted protection valid.

If you own or manage a large IT facility, prepare in advance a detailed list of all the equipment that is part of the infrastructure. This will help you document your petitions and claims after a disaster.

If there is a storm or very heavy or prolonged rains, disconnect all electrical appliances to prevent permanent damage caused by surges or high voltages that can occur in electrical installations or data conductive lines.

Although it is impossible to control the climate, it is possible to prepare for likely scenarios arising from the consequences of climate change. Taking these precautions will help you make sure your electronic and computer equipment is better protected.

Peak and noise suppressors prevent surges from damaging electronic equipment such as: modem/fax/tv or satellite cable, point-of-sale terminals, audio and video equipment, TV screens, home theater systems, printers, Blu-ray or DVD players, etc.

Finally, in the absence of the electricity supply, it is not only important to install a UPS (No Break) suitable for what you want to support, but even to have a software that allows you to automatically and organized turn off the corresponding equipment; so that when there is a failure in the electricity supply the information and equipment are completely insured. In this way the rainy season, therefore, will only be a natural phenomenon that we will contemplate from the window and with the peace of mind that our information, equipment and business are well protected.
