International. Genetec shared the results of its 2024 State of Electronic Security report, based on the experience of more than 5,500 leaders, end users, and integrators around the world.
This report discusses the security strategies organizations are adopting to address the realities of a changing industry.
"Hybrid cloud deployment emerges as the way forward for many organizations, combining on-premises infrastructure with the power of the cloud," said Christian Morin, vice president of product engineering and chief security officer at Genetec Inc.
"With a hybrid cloud solution, organizations can optimize their physical security installation to best fit their business. And no matter how their security needs evolve, their systems will remain agile and adaptable, giving them the capabilities they need."
Cloud Adoption Is Accelerating
According to the survey, 44% of end users reported that more than 25% of their physical security configurations are now in the cloud or use a combination of cloud and on-premises environments. This is a significant jump from the 24% reported in last year's survey.
In Latin America, similar results were obtained to the global average, with the exception of South America, where the percentage was 29%, which also shows an increase compared to the annual average at the global level last year. However, the acceleration is less than this year's annual average.
Lessen cloud concerns
Last year, end-users saw cybersecurity risks as the main deterrent to adopting cloud-based systems. However, there seems to be a change in attitude.
Now, there is greater confidence in vendors' abilities to establish robust cybersecurity measures. As a result, in this year's analysis, respondents relegated perceived cybersecurity risks to sixth place among the factors deterring the adoption of cloud security systems.
Integrators Expect Increased Demand for Cloud Solutions
74% of integrators surveyed globally anticipate that more of their existing customers will adopt cloud connectivity for e-security in the coming year.
In Mexico, there is a more optimistic view with 85%. In addition, 39% of integrators globally said they prioritize cloud-based solutions whenever possible, while another 52% offer cloud-based solutions at the customer's request.
IT & Physical Security Departments
The increased use of the cloud has led to an increase in cybersecurity threats, data handling, and compliance requirements. As a result, IT and physical security teams are increasingly interconnected.
This is indicated by 55% of end users globally, who say that the IT department has access to physical or electronic security data.
Hybrid Future
Most organizations will prefer a hybrid approach, combining on-premise and cloud-based solutions. 60% of end users surveyed revealed that their organizations are aiming for a security deployment strategy that combines both.
Globally, 15% of end users say their organizations currently store video surveillance data both on-premises and in the cloud, which is a notable increase from the 4% reported in last year's survey.
The report can be found online for more details and information specific to Latin America.
