International. The company Dahua, thinking about the needs of educational institutions, has decided to implement security solutions with Artificial Intelligence, both internally and externally. This implies less risk of intruders, follow-up and reduction in cases of bullying, among other benefits.
It is important to bear in mind that the security problems around schools, which vary due to the geographical, social and economic context of each region, must be added to internal conflicts. Plan International estimated in 2015 that 246 million children and adolescents were victims of violence in and around their schools. In addition, the space provided by technologies became the field of action of cyberbullying, which includes various age levels and permeates social networks. So acts of rudeness, aggression and bullying take action in two scenarios.
That is why it was declared, by the General Conference of UNESCO at the end of 2021, The International Day against Violence and Harassment in School, including Cyberbullying an initiative that every November 5 recognizes "that violence in the school environment, in all its forms, violates the rights of children and adolescents, health and well-being."
According to the NGO Bullying without borders, in its official report of World Bullying Statistics 2020/2021, violence of this type occurs in 85% of cases inside the school, but more than 90% of these acts are not reported by teachers. While 82% of the affected minors have some type of disability, 74% of them are between 8 and 14 years old. Moreover, as a result of this type of bullying situation, 200,000 children and adolescents lose their lives every year, while 3 million stop attending school every month.
Dauha Offering: AI for Education and Security
Taking into account the needs of the current educational market and the global situation of bullying, Dahua Technology has designed a series of technological solutions with Artificial Intelligence (AI) that provide benefits focused on supporting teaching and surveillance.
The Dahua DeepHub Smart Interactive Whiteboard includes multifunctional writing, wireless projection and conference content sharing, ideal for spaces where demonstration, information exchange and document management are needed. This whiteboard was designed for the transition from face-to-face classes to its online version, as it has a camera with transmission function, which automatically tracks and captures the lesson, through the artificial intelligence algorithm, with an accuracy of up to 99%. It even integrates with multi-channel video streams to restore the classroom scene, generating an immersive remote learning experience.
In front of security, Dahua has access control that can effectively prevent unauthorized entry to the campus. This control, integrated with data management technology, serves to meet other daily needs of schools such as attendance control, visitors and vehicles. In that same sense, it offers perimeter protection, where when detecting the entry of an unauthorized person or transport, it sends an alarm in real time to notify the control room. Also, with machine learning technology, false warnings are reduced by filtering out irrelevant objects such as leaves, branches or animals. Complementing this system are 3D cameras that, with the help of an AI sensor, provide stereo analysis capabilities to identify fights, falls, and other potential violent behaviors through deep learning.
Another important application is the one-button alarm system, which also works in real time, so school security personnel can be instantly informed about possible emergencies, allowing them to intervene and respond accordingly. Implementing this button on the premises gives students the fastest way to ask for help in case of altercations or accidents. Finally, for a complete integration, Dahua has several platforms and central management software, which combine data security and privacy functions, helping to protect privacy during monitoring, as well as improving security practices and promoting responsible monitoring.
In conclusion, taking video-centric AI as its core, Dahua offers a solution with a three-dimensional approach: secure campus, smart teaching, and smart exam room. Where it provides comprehensive on- and off-campus monitoring on an ongoing basis and minimizes student fraud behaviors on exams. In addition, it takes advantage of intelligent teaching and learning platforms, to promote modern digital classrooms. An example of this is that, in 2021, Dahua helped Egypt's Ministry of Education regulate the country's university entrance examination, by implementing an examination room network system for 1,800 examination centers.
