Mexico. In order to raise awareness and contribute to the elimination of digital aggression against women, and other vulnerable population, Expo Seguridad Mexico will organize a digital panel entitled "Digital violence: Challenges, actions and possible solutions", which will be held this Thursday, May 20, at 5:00 p.m. (Mexico), in which several specialists belonging to the academy will participate, the Government of mexico City and social organizations that promote violence.
According to Jorge Hagg, general director of Expo Seguridad México, this meeting will talk about the effects of digital violence on society, and the proposals and solutions that exist to face it: "In Mexico every five minutes women, whether adolescents, young people or girls, suffer some type of digital attack; 9.4 million of them have experienced cyberbullying in the form of sexual advances (40.3%), photos or videos with unsolicited sexual content (32.8%), and offensive messages (33.9%). We have to contribute to reducing or eliminating those numbers."
In Mexico, there are efforts to contain digital violence; the Human Rights Commission of the CDMX has presented reports on the subject and there is an initiative on feminist internet, free of violence, by a collective called "Las luchadoras", although perhaps the most significant in a legal way has been "The Olympia Law", which consists of a set of legislative reforms aimed at recognizing digital violence and punishing crimes that violate the sexual privacy of people through the media digital, but still to be done.
"For that reason, we want to contribute from our trench as Expo Seguridad Mexico to give voice to the specialists who are going to present themselves on May 20 in a virtual panel, open to the public, to present background, proposals and advances that have been achieved in the eradication actions against this type of violence," explained Jorge Hagg.
The panel will feature the participation of Olimpia Coral Melo, founder of the National Front for Sorority, which brings together 30 women's associations fighting to eliminate gender violence; Dulce Colín Colín, general director of Equality and Attention to Gender Violence of the Secretariat of Women of the Government of the CDMX; Regina Cruz Vega, a specialist in the social prevention of violence, who has coordinated the implementation of programs for the benefit of children, youth and women; and Mar Barragán, meta coach, cartonista and social activist for substantive equality, and founder of the Violet Network for Peace, an organization of culture of peace and prevention of violence with a feminist perspective.
"We hope that this effort will be well received by society, because it is about addressing a problem that affects practically the entire female population: Women between 18 and 30 years old are the most attacked in the digital space, although it has been recorded that 23.9 percent of the population under 18 years old has been the victim of cyberbullying. We are on the path of working together with the government, civil organizations and any institution that wants to join. To all, we are waiting for you this coming May 20 at 5:00 p.m.," concluded Jorge Hagg.
