Large-scale impact
Regarding this recognition, the Commissioner of Security of the Department of Education of Puerto Rico, César González Cordero, recalled the situation derived from the passage of Hurricane Maria through Puerto Rico on September 16, 2017:
"The safety of public schools was compromised due to the problems of lighting and easy access that it left. Incidents of escalation and vandalism increased substantially, having to invest money in replacing stolen electronic equipment and repairing schools, which directly affected the education of the almost 400,000,000 students in the public system."
The commissioner said that after analyzing several security alternatives implemented in other countries, the Office of the Commissioner of Security of the Department of Education chose virtual security as a tool through the creation of virtual gates that create alerts.
"The Department of Education is honored to have an electronic surveillance system that serves as an example to the world," the commissioner concluded.
