Colombia. The Terminal of the Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport, located in Palmira, near Cali, has the technology of a video surveillance system supplied by Hanwha Techwin. Here are the details of the project:
The challenge
Aerocali is a concessionaire of the Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport that provides its services to Cali from the municipality of Palmira, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. With flights to 82 international destinations and around five million passengers transported each year, it was essential to expand its facilities. Hence, in March 2017 the new international pier was inaugurated, which has 19,600 m² and a platform of 55,000 m², which would enter into operation three months later. The work, in which 230,000 million pesos were invested, included the installation of a video surveillance system and access control to Terminal 2, which had to be delivered during a tight schedule.
"It was an installation from scratch, because the terminal was new and this system was necessary due to the increase in operation," said Jorge Avilés, commercial director of Territorio Cono Norte de Ikusi, a multinational in charge of the execution of this project that included the update of the access control system of the softsegur company to Armadillo, Ikusi platform for the integral management of security in large infrastructures. In this way, Avilés referred to the challenge of monitoring the areas necessary to provide security to the current operation at the airport.
Solution
To offer a professional solution, 73 Hanwha Q-Series QND-7080R cameras were installed, characterized by motion detection and blur. Likewise, three SNP-5321H PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras were used, those with the ability to approach with perfect clarity at high speed and in which sound, movement and changes in the heat footprint activate the camera, focus and changes in the field of view. Finally, seven SNP-6321 cameras, also PTZ type, were added with a maximum resolution of two megapixels (1920 x 1080). To this were added failover servers (a backup mode of operation in which the functions of a system component–such as a processor, server, network, or database–are assumed by secondary system components when the primary one is unavailable, either due to a failure or scheduled downtime) from HewlettPackard for the Video Management System (VMS) application. in English) by Genetec.
Result
Today, all the airport staff arranged in the new terminal spaces, from the advisors of the different airlines to members of government institutions such as the Directorate of National Taxes and Customs (Dian), the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) and, most prominently, the Airport Police, have the additional support of Hanwha Techwin's video surveillance solutions. These are currently responsible for protecting all areas of Terminal 2, with the exception of the administrative offices and the perimeter of the runway.
Linked to Armadillo, these solutions provide real-time airport security management support under a single monitoring and control platform. WiseStream's technology dynamically controls coding, quality balance, and compression according to movement in the image under a hallway view.
Working together
The process of installing the cameras and the access control system lasted three months, the same time that elapsed between the delivery of the remodeling and modernization works of the airport until its final operation. For Avilés, as a representative of Ikusi this meant a great challenge, because the delivery time was very tight. However, it highlights the joint work that took place with the construction company and companies that provide various systems to accelerate the process and guarantee protection and make it the second largest airport in Colombia.
