International. Axis Communications unveiled its new Artpec chip, which refers to the seventh generation of this product and has new capabilities and features such as improved images, more powerful security features and high capacity to perform information analysis. In addition, since the chip was developed by the brand, it provides a layer of control that is crucial for effective cybersecurity.
"We are one of the few manufacturers developing its own chipset, so the creation of Artpec 7 is a key differentiator for us and a significant benefit for our customers," said Fredrik Nilsson, vice president of Axis Communications for the Americas. "In this generation of Artpec we have included many important features, such as updated security. In addition, unlike another, it is not a generic design, rather, it is 100% optimized to create a high-quality network and video solutions, therefore, this release really exemplifies our vision to innovate to achieve a smarter and safer world."
Due to its characteristics this chip has a completely redesigned image processing, the Artpec 7 improves all the exclusive Axis solutions that have been created to face the most extreme light conditions. For example, with Lightfinder 2.0 it offers high-quality solutions such as sharper images of moving objects, even in the darkest areas.
Forensic WDR technology will provide clearer images of objects, as well as improved detail in backlit scenes, or with large differences between the lightest and darkest areas. In this way, the increase in light sensitivity also significantly expands the illumination range of Axis cameras with IR technology.
Enhanced security features
Artpec 7 enables "built-in" security features for Axis cameras, including firmware, so that only one secure firmware can be installed, preventing the operation of an unauthorized one.
Developments in compression
With this chip Axis cameras will also allow users to choose between H.264 and H.265 video encoding depending on what best suits their system and surveillance needs. Either of the two encoding standards in combination with Axis Zipstream technology will now require lower bandwidth and storage space without sacrificing image quality.
Analytical capability
This chip features a real-time object detection engine that will enable the development of powerful analytics to automatically detect and differentiate people and objects, which is why in the future Artpec 7 will be the basis for most of Axix's network video products.
