International. HID Global introduced its new augmented reality tool for integrators, installers and consultants who implement and use the brand's access control products. The new tool (HID AR Reader Tool) optimizes and facilitates installation, while simplifying updates and technical support at the point of use, thanks to the combination of 3D data and guided animations in real environments.
"By taking the data in 3D and placing it in the real world, the tool takes a critical step in the use of augmented reality technology to offer the installer, integrator, consultant and HID specifier community advanced capabilities for the design, review, collaboration, installation and technical support of access control projects," said Stephen Carney, vice president of product marketing, Physical Access Control Solutions division, HID Global.
Likewise, the augmented reality tool allows to reduce the time of attention of maintenance requests, as well as the downtime, as it improves communication and collaboration between local and remote work teams. It also improves the training processes to perform the installation of the solutions and streamlines the modifications that must be made to any installation, thanks to the fact that it allows implementations, updates and visual tours to solve problems in a guided and step-by-step way, using 3D models in the place of real implementation.
Organizations can leverage hid ar reader tool to maximize their investments in building information modeling (BIM), a process by which digital representations of physical locations are generated. BIM can be used to track installation progress, identify discrepancies, and ensure quality by overlaying models and relevant information in the real world. It can also show very clearly and reliably, to all parties that are related to access control, the purpose and impact of the design, in order to accelerate decision making.
The initial functions are already available for the following practical uses, just download the HID AR Reader Tool application on an iOS tablet:
OSDP/Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) module updates: The tool renders and animates the reader, the process of opening the reader, removing its cover and connecting the OSDP and/or BLE module to the reader.
Backplate Installation: The tool renders and makes an animation of the mounting box and makes an animation of the backplate mount on the junction box, showing animated details, such as the mounting screws.
OSDP wiring from reader to panel: the tool renders and makes an animation of the reader wiring, as well as an animation of the controller and wiring
iCLASS SE readers are now available in the free HID AR Reader Tool and additional readers will be added periodically. The company reported that over the course of 2019 and beyond, the tool will be expanded to incorporate additional augmented reality features. Additionally, the tool is available, for now, only in English.
