Colombia. With the purpose of developing sustainable urban centers and in line with the environmental commitment, Mallplaza obtained in the Coffee Axis the LEED Silver (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, international recognition given by the Green Building Council of the United States (USGBC, for its acronym in English).
"From the planning of our projects we contemplate the development of efficient spaces, that is why in Mallplaza we build and operate shopping centers with an innovation in design and with the highest standards in terms of energy saving, water reduction and proper use of recyclable materials," said Pablo Pulido, manager of Mallplaza in Colombia.
Thus, since its inception, 20% of the construction materials of Mallplaza Manizales were composed of recycled material, in addition to implementing practices that allowed more than 75% of the waste generated by the work to be diverted from landfills, taking advantage of them in scrapping, recycling and other purposes. In turn, the mall was developed with the highest standards of automation technology and electronic security for its operation and operation, allowing the control of all its systems through state-of-the-art software that makes the Mall an efficient space and low operational cost.
These operating efficiencies are achieved through automated lighting controls, ventilation and pumping equipment and a state-of-the-art parking system, which allows a count of vehicles by levels, to inform the client of the available quotas and monitor in passing the key aspects of entry and security. "The help of state-of-the-art technologies, added to the bioclimatic architecture, has allowed us to take advantage of the environmental conditions, achieving from 50% to 100% of natural ventilation of the total air required in the different areas of the shopping center, thus generating energy savings of 12%, compared to a conventional building," added Pulido. Additionally, the shopping center has several efficient and water-saving devices with which reductions in consumption of 40% are projected with respect to conventional devices. In this way, Mallplaza Manizales becomes the fourth Mallplaza Shopping Center in Latin America to obtain this distinction along with Mallplaza Arequipa, in Peru and Mallplaza Egaña and Mallplaza Copiapó in Chile.
Mallplaza is one of the main shopping center chains in Latin America, with 21 shopping centers with operations in Chile, Peru and Colombia. These total more than 1,525,643 leasable square meters which receive more than 288 million visits annually.
With operations in three countries in Latin America, the company is a leader in the region thanks to its successful business model focused on the consumer and innovation, sustainable development, which is expressed in its commitment to communities, culture, employees and the environment.
