Hanwha Techwin is one of the founding members supporting the launch of the Open Security & Safety Alliance. This alliance represents the main companies in the market that offer solutions for security, building automation and related industries.
The Alliance is a non-profit, non-action organization that brings together similar organizations to establish the specifications of a standardized common platform for security solutions available to all. Joining Hanwha Techwin are Bosch Building Technologies, Milestone Systems, Schneider Electric's Pelco™ and VIVOTEK Inc.
Background
The Alliance was created in response to a current market characterized by the continuous evolution of the Internet of Things and data aggregation. Security solutions are fragmented because companies do not collaborate with each other to address common challenges; among others, computer security and common operating systems. This is holding back innovation and the possibility of achieving optimal integration.
Many market players compete on technical issues that don't necessarily make a significant difference for customers. The market needs a new direction, an infrastructure that allows the industry to focus on innovation and developments that bring true added value to customers.
Purpose
The Alliance brings together those organizations that recognize the need to give a new direction to the market and that are willing to contribute to the platform, providing standards and specifications for common components; among others, an industry-specific operating system, an IoT infrastructure, a collective approach to preserving the security and confidentiality of information, as well as a push to improve performance levels.
This platform will help the market and stakeholders focus on aspects that actually offer added value to their customers and open up new application possibilities, even beyond security. The following are the main tasks of the Alliance:
- - Create and promote the use of common standards, best practices and specifications.
- - Address challenges shared by industry players, such as data security and confidentiality.
- - Allow market players to concentrate on innovative solutions that their customers consider to have greater added value.
Members will benefit from accelerated innovation, more business opportunities, and a higher level of confidence in their security solutions.
By and for the industry
Over the past year, the founding members have been working closely together and discussing with more than 50 companies, from pioneers in technology adoption to track record technology organizations, to verify starting concepts.
System integrators and distributors have been consulted to ensure that the Alliance is tailored to the needs of all stakeholders. These initial inputs will help shape the standards and specifications that will eventually be consolidated into the Alliance's infrastructure.
Starting with the five founding members, Hanwha Techwin, Bosch Building Technologies, Milestone Systems, Schneider Electric's Pelco ™ and VIVOTEK Inc. and the first companies to join the Alliance, including Ambarella Inc., Anixter Inc., AndroVideo, Kings Security Systems Ltd and NetApp, the global alliance will focus on designing standards, specifications, best practices, benchmarks and implementation guidelines. Together, Alliance members can pool their knowledge, experience and track record to achieve common goals and create a way to approach the market.
Jonguk Kim, director of Hanwha Techwin's Research and Development Center, said: "Hanwha Techwin will do everything possible to drive the development of the new ecosystem that the Alliance pursues, contributing to the Alliance's infrastructure and working hand in hand with various application and solution providers."
Kim added, "We look forward to the Open Security & Safety Alliance, which will give new impetus to the security industry and other related industries through constant innovation."
