Colombia. The solution implemented in Bojacá also allowed to impact the security figures, reducing 423 robberies and drug sales since the deployment of the new wireless platform.
InfiNet Wireless has announced that the figures of personal violence in Bojacá, Colombia, have been reduced by at least 45 percent since the beginning of 2017, thanks to the implementation of a new and cost-effective wireless network.
Bojacá, a small town near the city of Bogotá, began the fight against rising crime in every corner of its jurisdiction after it suffered a wave of personal injury, robberies both day and night, as well as drug-related crimes. In 2016, the local government decided it should take preventive measures and implement a video surveillance solution to initially cover six strategic locations in the city, along with an increase in police patrols.
Results from criminal records show that in the first eight months of 2016, 80 personal injury cases were reported in the city. However, during the same time period immediately following the launch of the surveillance platform, the total number of recorded crime cases decreased to just 44, a decrease of 45 percent. In early 2018, police figures continued to report a continued reduction in crime.
This project began after the government approached Maicrotel, a partner of InfiNet Wireless and a key systems integrator in Colombia, to design and implement a wireless network that transmitted video signals from dynamic and reliable IP cameras, some equipped with fixed lenses, others with remote control, tilt and zoom functionality. Maicrotel installed High-Capacity InfiMan 2x2 Point-to-Multipoint (PMP) base stations, a highly proven platform, at four central locations. Other locations were equipped with the InfiLINK 2x2 LITE point-to-point solution, because they were located outside the range and coverage of the base stations. The latest platform deployed allowed law enforcement authorities to significantly reduce the crime rate in the city, using various analyses such as face recognition and automatic license plate recognition (or ANPR), as well as providing high-quality video recordings that are used as solid evidence in court cases. A significant 23 percent decrease in drug sales was also recorded by authorities in a very short period of time.
The first phase of the project has proven to be so successful that local authorities have already allocated a new budget to increase the number of video cameras and allow them to control all access routes to the municipality, thus continuing their efforts to improve security and reduce theft from residences and businesses of all kinds.
"We are delighted with the results of this project with InfiNet Wireless as it helps us deliver much greater security to Bojáca and its surrounding communities and ultimately have a huge positive impact on their quality of life," said Carlos de Lamadrid, DIRECTOR of LATAM at InfiNet Wireless. "The Bojáca police now have their eyes on every corner of the city, thanks to the reliable and dynamic monitoring platform we have deployed. In addition to carrying real-time video streams, we have also delivered a wireless platform capable of supporting the municipality's need for high-quality voice and data transmissions."
