Latin America. Milestone Systems released its 9.8 device pack for the benefit of partners and customers using Milestone's XProtect video solutions. The bimonthly device packs contain software updates for XProtect video management that allow you to support new equipment.
A step further in support for mobile and body cameras
The use of body cameras allows wireless documentation of events that fixed cameras fail to record in full. This can improve information about the environment when safety incidents occur, but it can also increase the safety of workers performing their work alone or document maintenance and construction work, as the camera sends a real-time video signal to Milestone's VMS to instantly alert if a situation occurs. However, bandwidth restrictions can affect the quality of the transmitted video, limiting the possibilities of investigating incidents.
Internal storage in cameras can be a way to cope with this limitation, as high-quality video can be recorded internally while lower-quality video is streamed in real time to Milestone's software. When the body camera is then connected to a higher bandwidth network, the recording on the device will be transferred to the XProtect system and synchronized with the recording sent in real time. The ONVIF G profile standard makes this possible. This profile has already been implemented in XProtect in the device pack 9.8 for some camera models from Edesix and Zepcam, milestone partners.
Increased computer security of Axis cameras
Added support for SRTP for some Axis cameras. The Secure RTP (SRTP) protocol is an extension of the RTP protocol that features an enhanced security mechanism. It allows encryption, authentication and verification of integrity of data and messages transmitted through the RTP-based communication protocol. The ability to use SRTP has been implemented in all Axis drivers for Milestone XProtect. The deployment uses the intelligent configuration features of supported Axis cameras to make it easier to activate the additional level of security.
Other highlights of this device pack
XProtect's support for Bosch cameras with local storage has been increased: it is now possible to access the status of devices via the VMS. Support for Mobotix MxActivitySensor has also been added in camera analysis tools to process alarms such as motion detection from smart cameras. Additionally, full support is provided for several models of Hanwha thermal cameras, allowing the Milestone community to use the widest range of thermal cameras.
