International. Milestone Systems launched its second annual Milestone Community Kickstarter contest. The initiative is intended as a collaboration with the open platform community of partners and customers that promotes and supports innovation, a support that includes the financing of development activities and assistance for the market penetration of new concepts since its inception.
The overall objective of the innovation competition is to develop unique solutions in video management, security surveillance, or beyond security, in other interesting applications that can be incorporated into Milestone's XProtect VMS portfolio.
"We are sponsoring the Milestone Community Kickstarter 2018 contest to encourage and realize new ideas and innovative video applications with the XProtect VMS family of products," says Bjørn Skou Eilertsen, Chief Technology Officer, Milestone Systems. "Visualization technologies are changing our world today and Milestone aims to help our community of partners and customers to be part of this change. We want to know all the ideas, of any kind, that circulate out there and help bring them to life."
Any person or organization that has a unique idea can participate in the contest. It can be a piece of code to improve the physical safety of a small retail store, a concept that helps children learn better in school or improve their performance in sports, a way to monitor patterns that allows improvements in production, logistics, transportation, construction or agriculture, a simple but significant help for patients and the elderly. The only requirements are that the idea is the intellectual property of the contestant and that the solution is created using the free Milestone Integration Platform Software Development Kit (MIP SDK). The winner will receive a prize valued at USD 65,000 that includes the following:
- Cash prize of USD 10,000
- Solution design evaluation and feedback
- Prototype development support
- Milestone Certification of the Selected Solution
- Market exposure
In December, five finalists will be announced, who will have free admission and who will be assigned an exhibitor booth at the 2018 Milestone Integration Platforms Symposium (MIPS) to begin their journey of discovery in the partner community. The winner will be announced at MIPS 2018, which will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, February 19-22.

Learn more about last year's winner
Last year's winner was Parking Spotter, an app that helps end users find the nearest available parking spot. This application helps parking owners improve operational flows by analyzing video images from cameras installed within their premises and brings together in a single application all the parking places of a city or country. A member of the jury referred to Parking Spotter in the following terms: "It's an excellent way to show how a fairly simple integration can be of great value." It was recently announced that the solution was also selected as one of the TOP 30 Technological Innovations of 2017 by Security, Sales & Integration magazine.
