International. A short distance from the modern metropolis of Naples are the ruins of the world-famous Roman city of Pompeii. It is the second largest attraction in Italy, after the Colosseum, with 15,000 daily visitors.
To prevent damage to these extraordinarily well-preserved artifacts and richly decorated surfaces, more than 380 Mobotix DualDome cameras have been installed inside the archaeological site.
This company prevailed over its competitors thanks to its outstanding quality and the decentralized structure of the system, which allows to simplify the infrastructure and reduce total costs. The Italian government's "Grande Progetto Pompei" initiative aims to improve the efficiency of excavations in Pompeii. The video surveillance system aims to help the conservation, protection, maintenance and restoration of the facilities.
The walls and frescoes of Roman houses, the heart of the excavations, are damaged with numerous graffiti and destruction caused by pens and nails. The authors are sometimes tourists who, partly on purpose, stay inside the walls outside of opening hours to the public.
Metoda, Mobotix's Italian partner, knew immediately what the right solution was to carry out the video surveillance project in Pompeii. "Mobotix met the requirements of the tender without problems and was in fact the only technology capable of responding to the real needs of the Superintendence of Pompeii. A great success that far exceeded the expectations of the client, especially in terms of the quality of the image", explains Cesare Gonnelli, manager of Metoda.
The protection of Pompeii, a World Heritage Site, is just one example of the successful use of the brand's outdoor cameras worldwide. These are manufactured in Germany to the highest quality standards and tested at temperatures from -30 to +60 °C. Currently and until the end of September, the manufacturer offers for all its outdoor models an extension of the warranty from two to four years.
