Colombia. Fortinet announced enhancements to its cloud-based FortiCloud management system and a new line of wireless cloud access points (APs), continuing its strategic investments and boosting the secure wireless networking market (including the recent acquisition of Meru Networks).
Fortinet's "FortiAP-S" Wireless LAN (WLAN) series includes the most secure wireless access points on the enterprise market, managed in the cloud. This is possible by using Fortinet's security technology directly on the access point, which is updated with data from Fortinet's industry-leading FortiGuard Labs. Organizations will no longer sacrifice security when managing their enterprise wireless LAN from the cloud.
Companies around the world face multiple challenges when implementing and managing a wireless LAN solution for customers and employees. Today's enterprise WLAN solutions often require complex architectures to segment internal and guest networks. In addition, they require additional hardware, such as WLAN drivers and other safety devices. Although new cloud-managed Wi-Fi providers have emerged that have helped reduce complexity and management issues when deploying wireless networks, transferring WLAN control to the cloud has led to new security challenges, which have so far gone unmet.
Fortinet's new line of FortiAP-S wireless access points allows enterprises to remove separate WLAN controllers, without exposing the network to cyber threats. Each series of FortiAP-S access points is centrally managed through the cloud-based FortiCloud management system, enabling easy deployment and management of Wi-Fi networks, as well as increasing security, visibility and control. In addition, this system reduces the complexity of infrastructures. This makes it easy for organizations to deploy and manage a secure Wi-Fi network, while the scalability of cloud management makes it the ideal solution for distributed enterprises that can have thousands of sites.
