Brazil. HID Global is expanding its business in the Brazilian biometrics industry. With the acquisition just over a year ago of Lumidigm, a global leader in authentication solutions for biometric fingerprint sensors, the company increased its presence in the financial sector.
In a market with 190,000 ATMs, at least 60,000 have multispectral imaging sensors installed, something that further differentiates the brand.
Currently, HID Global has fingerprint sensors installed in the ATMs of the largest public and private banks in Brazil and in most banking terminals that operate 24 hours a day (which serve customers of several banks).
In the opinion of Juan Carlos Tejedor, commercial director of Lumidigm for Latin America, this is a very promising market, since more than 90,000 biometric sensors are needed to cover all the installed units, not to mention the technological update that must be carried out regularly.
It is easy to explain the superiority of multispectral imaging technology: by using multiple light spectra and advanced polarization techniques to extract the unique fingerprint, customer identification is done on the first try, even if the finger is wet, greasy, dirty, worn or injured. Thanks to a reading that identifies both the characteristics of the skin surface, such as an inner layer, irrigated by the bloodstream, the multispectral image of the fingerprint provides the highest quality, is able to immediately point out "who" is doing "what" and also shows when it comes to an imposter or a fraud with fake fingerprints.
