Ecuador. The operators of the country's ECU-911 power plants will not only keep 'their eyes' at the points where there are video surveillance cameras, but will also implement the use of public address systems to deter anyone who is observed committing an improper act.
The project known as 'IP Public Address' consists of installing megaphones under the cameras located in sectors considered as conflictive, for example, where people constantly gather to drink on public roads, where obscene acts are committed, those that are used as bathrooms, among others.
"The idea is not to put them in each neighborhood, but in those that contraventions are committed, shows are held, or that are of greater tourist influx," explained Antonio Ruales, national director of Technology of ECU-911.
The official reported that the pilot will start with 100 or 200 devices, which are acquired from Beijing (China) and work with the same fiber optic system of the cameras that are placed on poles that measure 12 meters and that are protected by reverse spikes.
"This is the final stage of the Integrated Security System project. We are working so that the service is used not only by ecu-911, but by municipalities that also want to transmit their messages to citizens," he added. The devices are vandal-proof and operate outdoors.
"The audio can be regulated depending on the need, the speaker is interchangeable and the power can be adjusted," said Antonio Ruales.
Vice Admiral Jorge de #La Torre, deputy zonal technical director of ECU-911 Samborondón, said that video monitors will be trained to recognize in which cases megaphones can be used.#Además, a database of predesigned phrases will be developed for each case. "With kindness and education we will deter and prevent improper acts from being commented on that can also end in crimes," he said.
De la Torre commented on some cases that may arise and that we want to avoid, such as people scratching the walls, taking the covers of the sewers, doing their needs on public roads, throwing garbage at the time not allowed, among others. The initiative has already been socialized with representatives of the municipal Decentralized Autonomous Governments (GAD) and is expected to begin the implementation of the project with the signing of agreements.
